Chandra Bahadur Khatri
Chandra Bahadur Khatri, a resident of Tilottama-1, Char Bhatti, is the founder of Malika Livestock Business Firm. Born into a family with a long history of livestock farming, Khatri inherited a deep connection to the profession. Despite the traditional knowledge passed down through generations, he realized that the profession was often overlooked and undervalued. In 2017, with a vision to revitalize and modernize the livestock business, Khatri took a significant step by leasing 4 bighas of land in Mangsir. Determined to break the cycle of neglect and low yields, he invested in buffaloes, which were initially 14% of his total livestock. Over time, the calves from these buffaloes grew, contributing to the increase in milk production. Today, his livestock is in prime condition, producing substantial quantities of milk daily. The path to success was not without its challenges. Khatri faced the initial struggle of transforming a traditional practice into a profitable enterprise. Lack of experience in business management, keeping proper accounts, and understanding modern agricultural practices posed significant hurdles. However, these challenges also presented opportunities for growth. By addressing these gaps, Khatri realized he could set a precedent for others in his community. Daayitwa played a pivotal role in Khatri’s journey. Through Reap’s training programs, Khatri and his team received valuable insights into business planning, financial management, and modern livestock farming techniques. The knowledge and support provided by Daayitwa helped them overcome initial losses and move towards a sustainable and profitable business model. Khatri's success has had a ripple effect in his community. By setting an example of what is achievable through dedication and modern techniques, he has inspired others to pursue livestock farming with renewed vigor. His firm has also provided employment opportunities, reducing the need for external workers and involving the local population in various capacities. This empowerment has not only improved the economic status of his employees but has also fostered a sense of community and shared progress. Chandra Bahadur Khatri’s journey exemplifies the essence of a growth mindset. Despite the initial setbacks and the steep learning curve, he embraced every challenge as a learning opportunity. His openness to new ideas, willingness to adapt, and persistent effort to improve his practices have been key to his success. By leveraging the support and training from Daayitwa, he transformed his traditional practice into a thriving business, demonstrating that with the right mindset and resources, substantial growth and community impact are possible. Khatri's story is a testament to the potential that lies within rural entrepreneurs when provided with the right tools and support. His journey from traditional livestock farming to a successful business model serves as an inspiration for many aspiring entrepreneurs in rural Nepal.
